On the morning of March 17, Vice President Zhang Baojun met with Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Chairman of the Japan Friendship Association and his wife, Ms. Miyuki Hatoyama, and Mr. Ichiro Kawabata, Executive Director of the Japan Friendship Association and other seven people in Jixian Hall of Run Run Shaw Lecture Hall. The two sides held cordial and friendly talks on Sino-Japanese friendly exchanges and talents cultivation.

After the friendly talks, Mr. Hatoyama gave a speech on the theme of “friendship and peace”. He first introduced the foundation, ideas and propositions, main activities and foreign exchanges of the Japan Friendship Association, and expounded the “three principles of friendship” whose aim is “mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual assistance”. In his speech, he mentioned that in order to promote exchanges between young and middle-aged Japanese, he has set up a “friendship scholarship” specifically to support and promote the development of Japanese education in China and to award recognition to diligent and enterprising college students. He also expressed his views on the “belt and road “initiative and other topics of great concern to the public. In the question-and-answer session, the Japanese students in BLCU spoke enthusiastically. Mr. Hatoyama answered the students’ questions one by one, and the atmosphere was warm.
